VPN vs Proxy
Privacy
VPNs and proxies can both change the IP address websites see, but they work differently.
A proxy usually routes traffic for one app, browser, or connection type. A VPN usually routes and encrypts traffic from your whole device through a VPN server.
When a proxy helps
A proxy can be useful for simple location testing, browser-specific routing, or technical tasks where encryption is not the main goal. Proxies vary widely in quality and trustworthiness.
When a VPN helps
A VPN is usually better for everyday privacy because it protects more traffic and normally includes encryption. It is also easier for beginners: install the app, connect, and check your IP.
Which should you choose?
Choose a VPN if you want to hide your IP from websites, protect public WiFi sessions, or reduce ISP visibility. Choose a proxy only when you understand the app-specific trade-offs.
