Privacy Policy

Redfern Retail Group Limited ("we", "us", "our") operates getmyipaddress.io. This policy explains what data we collect when you visit this site, why we collect it, how it is processed, and what rights you have under UK GDPR.

2. What Data We Collect

IP Address

Your public IP address is processed automatically when you visit the site, in order to display your IP information and approximate geolocation. We do not store your IP address in any database. It is processed for the duration of your request and, as described in section 3, cached briefly at Cloudflare's edge network so that repeat lookups of the same address do not need to be repeated.

Browser and Device Data

Standard browser data is transmitted as part of every web request, including your browser type and version, operating system and the referring URL. Some of our diagnostic tools additionally read information your browser exposes to any website, such as your screen resolution, time zone, installed fonts and WebRTC configuration. That information is processed in your browser to produce the result shown on screen. It is not transmitted to us or stored.

Analytics

This site currently runs no analytics software. We do not use Google Analytics. If we introduce analytics in future, this policy will be updated before it goes live, and we will use a privacy-preserving tool that does not set tracking cookies.

3. Who Receives Your IP Address

To turn your IP address into location and network information, we send it to third-party lookup providers. We try them in order and stop at the first that answers:

  • ipapi.is — our primary geolocation and VPN/proxy detection provider.
  • ipapi.co — used if ipapi.is does not return a usable result.
  • ipwho.is — used if neither of the above responds.
  • If all three are unavailable, we fall back to network metadata Cloudflare already holds about the connection, and no third party receives your address.

These lookups are made by our own Cloudflare Worker at api.getmyipaddress.io, not by your browser, so these providers do not receive your browser data or set cookies on your device. Responses are cached at Cloudflare's edge for up to one hour.

Tools that send an address you choose

Where you type an IP address into a tool yourself, that address is sent to the relevant public registry or resolver:

  • WHOIS lookup sends the address to ARIN's RDAP service, which may refer the query on to another regional internet registry (RIPE, APNIC, LACNIC or AFRINIC). Results are cached for up to 24 hours.
  • Reverse DNS lookup sends the address to Cloudflare's public DNS resolver.
  • Port checker opens a connection from our Worker back to your own public IP address, on the port you specify. It will only ever target your own address, never one you supply.

4. Cookies

This site sets two cookies. Both are strictly necessary for the site to run securely and neither is used for advertising, tracking or profiling, so no consent banner is required. We list them here so you can see exactly what is set:

  • __cf_bm — set by Cloudflare to distinguish human visitors from automated traffic. Expires after 30 minutes.
  • __dpl — set by our hosting provider to keep you on a consistent version of the site during your visit. Expires after seven days.

We do not set advertising cookies and we do not display advertising. We do not set analytics cookies. If that ever changes, this policy will be updated first and any non-essential cookie will be set only with your consent.

5. Affiliate Links

Some links on this site are affiliate links to third-party products and services, including VPN providers. If you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you. Clicking such a link takes you to the provider's own website, where their privacy policy and their cookies apply, not ours. We do not receive any personal information about your purchase.

6. Hosting and Processors

The website itself is hosted by Lovable, whose infrastructure sits behind Cloudflare. Our API, which performs the IP lookups described in section 3, runs on Cloudflare Workers. Both act as data processors on our behalf. Traffic to and from this site therefore passes through Cloudflare's network.

7. Legal Basis

We process your IP address on the basis of legitimate interests, specifically providing the diagnostic service you have asked for by visiting the page. The cookies in section 4 are processed on the basis that they are strictly necessary to deliver the service securely.

8. Your Rights Under UK GDPR

Under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, objection, and rights related to automated decision-making. Because we do not store your IP address or maintain user accounts, we generally hold no personal data about you that could be retrieved after your visit ends.
