How to Check If My VPN Is Working
VPN
The easiest way to check a VPN is working is to compare your visible IP address before and after connecting. Your IP should change from your ISP connection to the VPN server.
First, disconnect your VPN and open My IP Address. Note the IP address, ISP, and approximate location. Then connect your VPN and refresh the page. The visible IP should now match your VPN provider or server region.
Check DNS leaks
Changing your IP is not the whole story. A DNS leak can reveal domain lookups to your ISP even when websites see your VPN IP. Run a DNS leak test after connecting. If DNS servers still belong to your ISP, check your VPN app settings and enable DNS leak protection.
Check WebRTC leaks
Some browsers can expose IP information through WebRTC. Run a WebRTC leak test while connected to the VPN. If it reveals your real ISP IP, review browser settings or use a VPN/browser combination that blocks WebRTC leaks.
Check real-world behaviour
Try a few VPN servers. Speeds and leak behaviour can vary by location, device, and network. Retest after app updates or when switching browsers.
