How to Change My IP Address

How-To

There are several ways to change the IP address websites see. The best method depends on whether you want privacy, troubleshooting, or a new network route.

Use a VPN

A VPN is usually the easiest method. Connect to a VPN server and websites should see the VPN server IP instead of your ISP IP. After connecting, open My IP Address to confirm the change.

Switch networks

Moving from home WiFi to mobile data usually changes your public IP. Connecting from another WiFi network can also change it.

Restart your router

Some ISPs assign a new dynamic IP after your router reconnects. Others keep the same IP for a long time. This method is not reliable, but it is simple to try.

Use a proxy

A proxy can change the IP seen by one browser or app, but it may not protect your whole device. For privacy, a trusted VPN is usually simpler.

Ask your ISP

If you need a new IP because of network issues, contact your ISP. If you need a fixed address, ask about a static IP.
